Anyway, it’s been a while, so I thought we’d take a look.!
As noted in previous years, the sleekest boots for work avoid Western influences like buckles and heavy seams, and while a heel isn’t essential (flat knee-high boots have come a long way!) they do tend to be more flattering with skirts.

Fun questions for the gang: do you pretreat your boots or otherwise make changes (e.g., waterproof sprays, adding rubber heel tips) or do you only do that when you take your boots in to the cobbler for their seasonal refresh? I searched high and low for an affordable, good looking boot for the office, and I really like this one from Tahari (one of the many nice boots Last call has on sale and with a pretty good inventory today; also check out this Steven and this Taryn rose boot). The Tahari boots are particularly notable because they’re under $75, for today at least — they were $179, then marked down to $119, then another 30% off takes them down to $83 — then use code WOWME for another 10% off today, bringing them down to $74.97. These boots aren’t the sleekest, but they look comfortable and classic — and I love that they are not only highly rated over at Zappos, but come in a zillion colors, widths and calf sizes (Nordstrom has the widest selection), and — holla — Nordstrom has them marked down from $218 to $175. Readers continually sing the praises of Taryn rose boots, and a wedge boot can be a great way to get more height while maintaining comfort. I also like the quilted pattern on the suede here. I somehow have not noticed these boots before, but they must have been around for a while, because they have a 5-star rating at Zappos with 160 reviews. (This lower-heeled La Camiseta Atalanta BC Canadienne option also has a 5-star rating with 101 reviews.) The brand is legendary among waterproof brands, and while pricey ($395!) they should last you a long, long time.
